A lovely room (junior suite), good bar and excellent restaurant. Charming staff and good location. Reasonable parking nearby. Highly recommended.

        • Older travelers
          9.2

Just our style of hotel - boutique really - luxury within small room and excellent service - milk to room, prompt service etc. Set in the middle of a unique small town it had a buzz about it - efficient and busy.

Slight inconsistency in catering - one breakfast salmon excellent next one grey egg and no lemon.Shame dining room not open but understand this.

          8.2

The George is beautiful inside and just perfect for a romantic break. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

          Great location and beautiful interior.

We were waken up at 7am by construction work next door. As we spent an hour trying to get back to sleep (while the drilling and banging continued), the fire alarm came off for a few seconds at 8:07am... The other disappointment was that we discovered a pair of dirty used rubber gloves in the desk drawer which were probably left there by a cleaner. It was rather unpleasant. It was quite a shame as all other aspects of the hotel were lovely and would have been perfect setting for a comfortable stay.

          6.6

Building, furnishings in room, location, staff

Bed too small for a superior room. Problem with hot water in room - boiling water coming out of cold tap on two occasions. TV failing. Breakfast not really up to standard of hotel, eg tiny pot of poor marmalade, one croissant supplied between two people.

        • Older travelers
          4.6

          Location, but complicated to park.

Yes, a lot. When I booked I asked for a room on the top floor, they have four on the topfloor and one below. I got the one below. athere are no parking close to the hotel. When arriving I went in with the suitcases in a rush and asked them to give my wife the room key, because she felt ill. Thrre woman in the reception and they said yes they will handle it. It's really dificult to find parking so when I arrived 20 minutes later my wife was still sitting there and no one had help her to get the room. They are supose to have Wifi but I could not connect so I called the reception and they said they will get back to me rapidly. I waited almost two hours and then I told them again, nothing happened. Internet is my work so no good.

        • Older travelers
          10.0

Good attention from staff who were relaxed but professional. Room 20 was good but perhaps not luxurious but good enough. The small terrace outside is a nice touch and was good to have. The whole layout is impressive -the mix of designer chic and antique works very well. The food was very good and reasonably priced. I have seen some comments that it is expensive but don't get that at all. We enjoyed both lunch and evening meal. Good energy to the place with plenty of helpful staff which is unusual but definitely appreciated.

The room (20) was a bit too noisy from whoever was upstairs - just voices and footsteps but still very audible and a bit irritating. The tables for eating in the bar area (beneath the open terrace) were a little uncomfortable - that is to say the chairs too low but more importantly one felt a little out of the action as the main restaurant room has the ambiance one is looking for (or indeed the outside terrace which looks great) .The back bar area (with the bay window seat) could be a little more interesting but is still good compared to the 5 or 6 tables before the main restaurant. Did not feel entirely comfortable and felt a bit exposed . Maybe if there were two or three larger tables there instead it would give a little more intimacy and comfort. But again, overall, the experience was good.

        • Older travelers
          9.6

Lovely location. Very pleasant staff. Hotel very clean and lots of character. No on site car park not a problem as public car park only 5 mins walk and cost just £1.50 for 24 hours. Rye is a very pretty interesting town and The George is ideal place to stay.

          Accommodation slightly expensive.

        • Couple
          7.8

Nice hotel in a great location. Rye is a wonderful place.

A tad expensive for what it offers. There probably is better value to be had in Rye at one of the smaller places.

        • Couple
          9.2

A lot of thought and care has gone into the decor and refurbishment... we got lots of ideas about how we'd like to do our own home! The room was fantastic - comfortable, spacious and felt like a modern take on a classic style. The staff were helpful, friendly and efficient, and we even broke the habit of a lifetime and ate in the hotel restaurant rather than find a local place, as the menu looked so good.

        • Couple
          9.6

Beautiful, stylish and perfectly equipped rooms, great food. The best hotel in an idyllic town for my money

One tiny thing - we called reception for something and it never came. But this was a minor blip in what was otherwise a delightful stay

        • Older travelers
          6.2

Hotel is comfortable, food excellent, with emphasis on good, local produce, staff friendly but courteous, location in centre of historic town is great.

Reception somewhat chaotic and single member of staff easily distracted by other clients and phone calls when attempting to book in; room smelled musty and ventilation poor; disliked piped music everywhere: intrusive and unnecessary; very noisy wedding party on Sunday night, intrusive guests in public areas and thumping music in ballroom above dining room.

        • Older travelers
          5.8

The food was good and the room was pleasant

There is no parking at the Hotel and it is difficult to find space to unload luggage. Obtaining an early breakfast was difficult. When we were there the room was not serviced until after 4 oclock and then only after we complained. Paying double for the second night seemed harsh although I did agree it when booking.

        • Older travelers
          5.4

          The food was excellent.

The room was cold and considering it was marketed as the honeymoon suite not much privacy as you are on the ground floor with people walking past !The bed was terrible, sagging and we had a sleepless night. The heaters in the bathroom was not switched on and we ran out of water after 1 bath!My husband didn't much enjoy his cold shower! The breakfast service was extremely poor, there didn't seem to be any control over who was serving what table. We had to ask for tea, again toast and again for breakfast. The so called buffet had run out of more or less everything!Even glasses!Need I say more!

        • Older travelers
          8.8

Everything was perfect for a short break! Well done to all the staff.
